It’s that time again, thrifters. And this year, the goodies are bigger and better than ever. For the newbies out there, Secondhand Month is when we throw a huge promo-filled party for our favorite people, you! Highlights include our annual bingo game with amazing prizes, surprise discounts, eco education, and sales.
Here’s Why We Celebrate You
Before we reveal this month’s goodies, we just wanted to say thank you for choosing thrift with us when the temptation to buy new is REAL. The world is in a weird place right now. Budgets are tight, price cuts are deep, and every brand out there is having a sale. We get it, it’s tough! But just as it’s tough to ignore record-breaking summer deals, it’s even tougher to ignore record-breaking temperatures around the world too. So thanks for choosing to shop secondhand with us instead.
Here’s why that choice deserves to be celebrated:
- Secondhand means less waste. Plus, fewer of our precious resources are being used to produce new garments. Choosing one item used over new cuts your carbon footprint by 82%. Thrift matters.
- Secondhand means getting stuff that lasts while spending less. According to a study by McKinsey, 60% of fast fashion items are made and tossed in the SAME year. Ultra fast fashion’s business model isn’t designed for the future, and neither is that $4 top. Thrifting instead means you can get better quality items while still enjoying fast fashion-level pricing. And yes, there’s definitely cheaper-than-thrift stuff out there right now, but the environmental cost is more than you think!
- Secondhand means shopping with pride. Fast fashion and overconsumption is bad for the environment and our mental health too. We’ve all had buyer’s remorse. We’ve all felt guilty after a big fast fashion splurge. Giving clothes a second life instead means less waste, less icky feelings, and more pride in making a better choice for the planet.

KEEP THE FUN GOING
The party doesn’t have to end on thredUP, shake things up a bit from your normal routine in honor of Secondhand Month. First, you can wear your secondhand finds and style outfits so fabulous that folks will have no choice but to ask where you got them from. Next, go borrow an outfit! The greatest finds always come from other people’s closets (fact). Have fun rummaging through the closets of friends, family or both.
